Review workshops

  • First Research Workshop "Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics & IT" in IIT Mumbai, Oct 13th-14th 2016.
    1. The Academic Committee for 'Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT' during its 5th meeting held on 16th September 2015 observed that the quality of research is of paramount importance and recommended that a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) needs to be established to review & check the quality of the research work being done by the students.
    2. Therefore, to start with, the research abstract were invited from the first batch of candidates registered in 2014-15. 180 PhD Candidates from 31 Institutes submitted abstracts of their research work under the thrust areas covered under ESDM, ITES and IT. The Academic Committee of the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme proposed to conduct Research Review Workshops inviting Research Scholars to present their research work in order to assess the quality of research towards building an Innovative Ecosystem for ESDM, IT and ITES in the country.
    3. Out of 180 research abstracts received from the institute of 2014-15 batch, the sub-committee of the academic committee shortlisted 20 PhD Research Fellows and invited them along with their Guides for presenting their work in the research work shop.
    4. The First Research Workshop for the "Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics & IT" was held in IITB, Mumbai during October 13th-14th, 2016 for presentation of the research work of the Research Scholars of 2014 - 2015 batch. The presentations given by the shortlisted PhD Research Fellows along with their guides included their research work in the areas of Integrated Optics, Wireless Communication, Internet of Things, Computer Vision, Chip Design, Speech Signal Processing, Fiber Optics and Signal Processing, etc. This workshop was attended by the other 150 PhD candidates of the 2014-15 batch with 900 viewers from the 96 institutions through NKN Webcasting actively participating in the workshop in the presence of the review panel of the academic committee.
    5. The 20 presenters of the First Research Workshop will be further publishing their paper with the CSI Transactions in ICT journal which has collaboration with Springer to give worldwide coverage on the Research work being carried out by the Visvesvaraya PhD Research Fellows.
    6. The review panel of the academic committee and officials from Ministry of Electronics & IT also gave their suggestions to the presenters and other participants of the workshop their recommendation and approach towards evolving quality research to meet the current requirements for building up a quality research ecosystem in the country.

  • Second Research Workshop “Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics & IT” in IISc, Bengaluru 20th & 21st, February 2017.
    1. The Second Research Workshop for the "Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics & IT" was held at IISc Bengaluru during 20th–21st Feb’17.Research abstracts were invited from the PhD candidates  enrolled upto July 31st 2015(2015-16 batch). 176 PhD Candidates from 33 Institutes submitted abstracts of their research work for the thrust areas covered under ESDM, ITES and IT. Out of 176 abstracts received, the sub-committee of Academic Committee shortlisted 21 PhD Research Fellows and invited them along with their Guides for presenting their work in the research work shop.
    2. The presentations given by the shortlisted PhD Research Fellows along with their guides on their research work  and covered the areas of  Augmented Reality, Biocomputing, Biosensors, Biomedical, Cognitive radio, GIS, Optical Communication, Photovoltaic, Radiation Hardening, Robotics, Semiconductors, Signal Processing , Wireless Communication, etc. The workshop was attended by the other researchers who submitted their research abstracts besides other 800-900 viewers from the 96 institutions through NKN Webcasting.
    3. The first issue of the ‘CSI Transactions ICT journal’ in collaboration with Springer was unveiled in the workshop with publication of 11 Research Papers from presenters of the First Research Workshop held during Oct 13-14th 2016 in IIT Mumbai. The 21 presenters from the Second Research Workshop will also be further publishing their papers with the CSI Transactions in ICT journal for its future issues.  This will give an opportunity to have worldwide coverage on the research being carried out by the Visvesvaraya PhD fellows.     4. Professor Ganguli, MHRD IPR Chair, Tezpur University & CEO, Vision-IPR Mumbai and member of the International Editorial Board of the IPR Journal "World Patent Information" published by Elsevier Science Limited, UK also gave a presentation on Intellectual Property Rights -A Natural Integration with the Innovation Value Chain.The Second workshop has witnessed an active participation of the awardees of Visvesvaraya Young Faculty Research Fellowship. Their participation in this workshop has also been seen as an enabler to boost quality in research being carried out by the PhD fellows across all Institutes.The Second Workshop also saw interaction of the Visvesvaraya Fellows with the Industry Panel from MAIT, IESA, ELCINA and CDAC to discuss on the various aspects to do quality research based on the current needs of the various sectors in ESDM, IT and ITES.
    5. The review panel of the Academic Committee also gave their suggestions to the presenters towards evolving quality research. A feedback session between the participants and review panel of the Academic Committee was also conducted to discuss on the current requirements for building up a quality research ecosystem in the country.
